C R E T E

Crete is an island full of contrasts, with ancient ruins, lively small villages, and mountainous landscapes. We mostly explored the inland areas and a few towns, discovering a rich culture, delicious cuisine, and warm hospitality. It’s a destination that combines history, nature, and a gentle way of life.

Capital of Crete, Heraklion is a lively city that blends modernity and history. You'll find bustling streets, local markets, traditional restaurants, as well as iconic sites like the Archaeological Museum and the remains of the Venetian walls. It’s a great starting point to explore Cretan culture and the surrounding area.

I love the Cretan cuisine: moussaka, dakos, melting feta, local olive oil and honey desserts are a real treat.

Knossos is one of Crete's most famous archaeological sites, a remnant of the Minoan civilization. It houses the ruins of a vast palace, thousands of years old, with colorful frescoes and labyrinthine corridors. A must-see for a deep dive into the island's ancient history.

Agios Nikolaos is also renowned for its beautiful beaches with crystal-clear waters. We spent a peaceful time there by the sea, swimming and relaxing. The water is incredibly clear, perfect for cooling off in the Cretan sun.
